Why should you be a member of the NSVFA?
What's in it for you? There's more to our association than
hoses and helmets. When your department joins the
NSVFA, here's what's in it for you:

ACCIDENTAL
DEATH/DISMEMBERMENT INSURANCE:
—$4,000 Coverage is provided to each NSVFA member 24
hours a day. Coverage is “by member” enrolled.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE:
The NSVFA Annual Conference is held yearly in October
and is open to NSVFA members enrolled by October 1.
This meeting supports leadership, business sessions and
fellowship.

COMMITTEES:
Members have an opportunity to serve and provide
guidance on numerous committees appointed by the
President of the NSVFA.

COMMUNICATIONS:
Professional, up-to-date information, calendar and
activities of the NSVFA, the NVFC and the NE Fire
Chiefs’ Assn. are available on the web at
http://www.nsvfa.org. A web blog is also
available at this site for members to post questions and
responses to each other. The office communicates
important news with NE Fire Chief Assn. members and area
representatives for dissemination throughout the state
through email at
nsvfa@alltel.net and the NSVFA publishes a monthly
Nebraska Firefighter newspaper delivered to each member.

FIRE SCHOOL DISCOUNT—NSVFA
members receive discounted Fire School class fees. NSVFA
dues support the entire Nebraska State Fire School
effort which is an annual event taking place the third
weekend of May.

LIAISON WITH NEBRASKA FIRE
CHIEFS ASSOCIATION—The Nebraska Fire
Chiefs’ Association is supported through the NSVFA and
provide four training seminars throughout the year in
addition to actively promoting leadership and
involvement at the highest level.

LEGAL COUNSEL:
The Legal Advisor retained by the NSVFA is available to
assist member departments with legal guidance.

LEGISLATIVE / LOBBYING:
The NSVFA sponsors lobbying at state and national levels
supporting a Nebraska State Lobbyist and two
representatives to the National Volunteer Fire Council.
Each year the NSVFA and NE Fire Chiefs’ Assn. choose
legislative goals which senators may sponsor as bills.

NATIONAL REPRESENTATION
– The NSVFA has one National Volunteer Fire Council
Representative and one alternate who attend national
meetings annually, discussing and promoting the NSVFA’s
goals for its members.

NEBR FIREFIGHTER’S MUSEUM
AND EDUCATION CENTER – The NSVFA is
giving full cooperation and support to the museum and
education center which will give Nebraska Fire and
Emergency services nationwide recognition. $5.00 of each
Fire School student registration supports the museum.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
– The Nebraska State Fire School is an exciting time and
one of the great achievements of the NSVFA and the Fire
School Committee. The school is an avenue through which
all departments can continue to build and strengthen
their programs.

RECOGNITION—
Awards programs (Firemanship, Fire Department
Prevention, Fire Prevention Co-operative, Heroism and
the Smokey Paw Award) are presented annually at Fire
School to outstanding firefighters and Departments in
the State of Nebraska. Departments may submit
nominations for these awards each spring through the
Special Recognition and Fire Prevention Committees. A
Browning-Hilger award is also presented to a recognized
individual each year at Fire School. 25 and 50 year
members submitted by their Departments to the office are
recognized at Annual Conference.

SCHOLARSHIPS—The
NSVFA annually supports an individual who is studying
fire technology with a $750.00 scholarship and the NE
Fire Chief’s Assn. provides annual scholarships as well.

STATE AGENCY COOPERATION—The
NSVFA works closely with the Nebraska State Fire Marshal,
State Fire Marshal Training Division,
Nebraska Forest Service, Nebraska State Patrol and
Nebraska State Emergency Management Agency and the
Department of Health and Human Services.
The larger our membership, the better the
NSVFA will be. You can't participate from the outside
looking in.
